Hydrological Regime
and Water Cycle
Culvert constructions serve for a successful salvation of these tasks. The open front of water’s movement through them is 1.5 times more than in the Neva’s mouth. They provide a necessary withdrawal of water from the Neva into the Baltic Sea and at the same time they create conditions for life of plants and sea creatures.

Clearance
of Superficial Flow

Habitual year-round and frequent precipitation for citizens of Saint Petersburg mix with sand and road mud with Remains of inflammable lubricating materials and rubber particles of abraded coverings form an unattractive stream which tends to get into the Baltic. It is necessary to protect the sea from harmful consequences of the endless movement of cars on the arterial highway which goes along the protective constructions. For this reason the complex has an equipped system of drainage pipes and gutters.

There are drainage gutters with a variable depth projected on both sides of the road which provide collection of un-concentrated flows from the road bed of route. General depth of the gutters is 50 km.

From these gutters water goes through polymeric pipes in local cleaning constructions; there are 36 of them. They are located on the Neva part of protective dams. Here a deep clearance of assembled superficial flow happens. For this purpose, combined separators of sand and oil with a sorption block of before clearance and well for samples are used. Productivity of such separators is 20-30 l/s.

For clearance of diffusive flow from the passable part of the six bridges above the culverts, the system of drainage pipes and flumes under flights of bridges is also applied. From there water goes for clearance in special combined filter-patrons supplied with clinoptilolite and activated carbon. 118 of such filter-patrons are fixed on supports of the bridges of this complex.

Cleaning of superficial flow is produced in automatic regime until the meaning which allows cleaned water to escape in a body of water which has fish bearing significance.

For compensation purposes for a plot of area of water of the Gulf of Finland which was taken for construction of FPFC a fish hatchery was built for this purpose not far away from Ivanovsky threshold at the beginning of the 1990’s.

It has produced one hundred thousand young salmon (fisheries of young salmon). It promotes reproduction of salmon population in the Baltic Sea.

Directorate of FPFC successfully implemented a self-developed project of water protection actions according to the rules of the Water Code and Russian Water Strategy in the period till 2020.

For the first time 100 percent clearance of a superficial flow from a passable part of the road was provided in Europe. Not passing through clearance from pollution water from a marine plot of the circular highway in the Baltic Sea won’t get in.

Convincing evidence of the successful condition of the natural environment in the district
of the complex became the preservation of conditions for rest of almost 60 kinds of aquatic
and semi aquatic birds annually migrating through the Gulf of Finland.
